UK Game Company Profile: 4J STUDIOS

I've decided to do some articles on game developing and publishing companies in the UK. There is quite a long list of these, so buckle up and enjoy the show as we work through them alphabetically (unless something else crops up). You may not even have realised that these are UK companies and that some of your most favourite games were developed right here.

I am also trying to arrange interviews with these companies, if they still exist. They will form part of my UK Game Company Interview series.

First up: 4J Studios

HISTORY

4J Studios is a game development company based in Scotland; specifically Dundee and East Linton. They have dealt with many game publishers in their gaming careers, the most recognisable being Mojang, Microsoft Studios and ZeniMax Media.

Two of their key personnel, namely Chris van der Kuyl as Chairman and Paddy Burns as Chief Technology Officer, were actually members of VIS Entertainment before. VIS was created by Chris and then joined later by Paddy. They later formed 4J Studios.

From 2005 - 2009 they developed their own games, but from 2007 to this very day they are celebrated for their many award-winning game ports and remakes.
